Fine dining and a good drinks menu at the waterfront

Finn & Bear

The third offering from Charlotte and Chris Thomson who run The Pantry in Stockbridge and Colinton, Finn & Bear is perhaps the best incarnation yet of a venue which has changed hands numerous times in recent years.

With a light wash of colour over its exposed brick walls, the previous pub-grub boozer has been transformed into a trendy bar-restaurant, and feels altogether bigger, brighter, and better.

The food is sophisticated yet good value, with brunch, lunch and dinner options available and plenty of local produce, such as Borders pigeon breast, Bonnet goat’s cheese and Scottish game.

We shared a delicious baked Époisses to start and for mains I had the Madras spiked hake while my friend raved about the flat iron steak, which was cooked to perfection and came in at just £15.

The drinks menu was extensive and well-priced and the staff were helpful and had plenty of personality.

I look forward to taking advantage of Finn & Bear’s extensive outdoor seating and waterfront views as the warmer weather rolls around.
