Plenty to sink your teeth into at country fair

This year’s Galloway Country Fair will be the toast of its many visitors.

Every year the event delivers exceptional food and drink, and this year will be no different as it continues to excite visitors’ taste buds.

With 30 food and drink exhibitors and more than 10 caterers, the hardest choice for visitors will be choosing which to have. From selections of fine cheeses to meat pies, burgers and donuts, this year’s food options will showcase the best of what the region has to offer.

For the adults attending, there will be numerous drink exhibitors featuring gins, ciders, beer, whisky and more.

Anna Fergusson, Drumlanrig Castle and Country Estate manager, said: ‘We’ve tried to incorporate a little bit of everything, while focussing on sticking to our roots and staying local. There really is something for everyone.’

For those looking to take home new skills, Arran Seymour, head chef at The Auldgirth Inn, which was crowned Best Gastro Pub in Scotland last year, will lead live cooking demonstrations. These will be based around game produce, namely grouse, salmon and venison and local Galloway distillers, The Crafty Distillery, will host engaging cocktail mixing sessions too.

The Crafty team will feature classic gin cocktails, as well as a few of their house creations in their sessions throughout the weekend.

If baking is more your taste, there’s still time to enter the 2018 Bake Off Competition. This year, there are two categories where bakers can put their skills to the test. Adults will use their mixing skills when creating a rainbow cake, consisting a minimum of four colours. While younger bakers up to the age of 16 can test their creativity by baking a dog themed bun. Judging will take place at noon on Saturday (18 Aug).

Anna added: ‘Visitors will certainly get their fill at this year’s Fair, so be sure to bring your appetite.’

Galloway Country Fair takes place at Drumlanrig Castle and Country Estate on Saturday 18 August, from 10am to 6pm and Sunday 19 August, from 10am to 5pm. Tickets are priced at ÂŁ14 for adults, ÂŁ5 for children aged under 16 years, ÂŁ10 for concessions and ÂŁ32 for a family pass (two adults and two children). Under-fives go free.
