McLarens on the Corner opens its doors in Morningside

A brand new bar and restaurant, McLarens on the Corner, has opened its doors to the public in Edinburgh.

The exciting new addition to Morningside’s Holy Corner puts food and drink, provenance and family at the top of the menu.

McLarens on the Corner is the most recent opening for Scottish hospitality collection, Signature Group, home to a number of quality food and drink venues across Scotland.

Spilt across three floors, the restaurant, bar and event space will offer something for everyone, from breakfast to start the day, relaxing lunches, casual and formal dining, finished with an impressive cocktail offering.

The McLarens menu has been inspired by research trips around the world, bringing new and exciting concepts back to the capital for local residents to discover. Working with local Edinburgh producers such as I.J. Mellis and Andante Bakery, dishes include langoustine, monkfish and squid fritto misto and hand cut wild mushroom pappardelle.

Nic Wood, owner of Signature Group said: ‘We’re proud have opened McLarens on the Corner after many months of planning, designing, research and renovation.

‘The local community here is proud of its area, so it is great to be able to bring them something new. Having lived here myself I really wanted to bring some of the research that I’ve seen across North America to Morningside. We hope that McLarens can become a hub for the surrounding area, offering a place for everyone and quite literally their dog to come in, relax and enjoy some great food.’

Inside McLarens on the Corner

McLarens on the Corner celebrates the work of former Edinburgh Lord Provost, Duncan McLaren, who served from 1833 to 1881. Described as the ‘rescuer of the city’, McLaren was responsible for restoring Edinburgh’s finances after it ran into bankruptcy. As well as his financial expertise, in 1835 he pioneered free education for all classes, opened the Meadows to the public and established the Industrial Museum, now the National Museum of Scotland.

McLarens on the Corner’s ground floor is a home away from home where guests can enjoy quality hospitality, coffees and cakes and a children’s play area.

The first floor celebrates provenance with a local produce map, highlighting the catch of the day and the exact location of the beef farms where the restaurant’s steaks are sourced. Finally, guests are able to cosy up in the welcoming atmosphere of The Loft. The quiet workplace is the perfect area to get some work done or escape from reality, or enjoy an evening cocktail or two with friends.

The family and dog friendly venue is the second new venue to be opened by Signature Group in the last 12 months. Flagship venue for Cold Town Beer, Cold Town House opened in Edinburgh’s Grassmarket in March 2019.

McLarens on the Corner is located at 8 Morningside Road, Edinburgh, EH10 4DD. The bar, restaurant and event space are open seven days a week from 8am until midnight and 8am until 1am on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
