Why fans of fossils are heading to Edinburgh

Like the products it sells, Mr Wood’s Fossils is a rare find in a country like Scotland.

Opened in the Old Town in 1987 by famous fossil hunter Stan Wood, the shop is an Edinburgh institution and has a reliable customer base ranging from seasoned collectors seeking out an obscure Peruvian blastoid, to young children who delight in getting their hands on their very own dinosaur tooth.

For proprietor Matt Dale, what makes his job unique is how he sources his stock.

He attends international trade fairs each year in order to purchase his wares, the biggest of which is held in Tucson, Arizona, and attracts dealers from all corners of the globe.
