Lorna McNee wins Michelin star at Glasgow’s Cail Bruich

SCOTTISH chef Lorna McNee was tonight awarded a Michelin star for her work at the Cail Bruich restaurant in Glasgow.

McNee was appointed as the eatery’s head chef in August.

She was previously sous chef at Restaurant Andrew Fairlie in Gleneagles, which holds two Michelin stars.

McNee started her career as an apprentice under Fairlie and, in 2019, was named “Champion of Champions” on the BBC’s Great British Menu.

“Winning a Michelin star has been a dream of mine since I became a chef,” she said.

“I’m so proud, it is a dream come true.”

Cail Bruich, which also has three AA rosettes, was opened in 2008 by brothers Chris and Paul Charalambous who ran the kitchen and front of house respectively.

Chris decided to move away from the kitchen last year to focus on other aspects of the family-run business, which also operates Bar Brett and run Epicures.

The award marks Glasgow’s first Michelin star in 18 years, since the closure of Gordon Ramsay’s Amaryllis.

McNee is the first solo female chef in Scotland to be awarded a star in 20 years, and the first female chef to be awarded one in Scotland’s largest city.

Cail Bruich is currently offering delivery and collection for its “CB at Home” menus.
