Huge demand for upmarket new residential project

Sales at a prestigious Scottish residential project have reached £7.7million – six months before the development itself can even expect its first on-site visitors.

The Crescent by CALA Homes (East) is a sweeping glass-fronted curve of 84 luxury apartments on the 18-acre grounds of the former Donaldson’s College, set within the Edinburgh New Town UNESCO World Heritage Site.

With the first phase of 11 homes priced from £599,000 to £1,925,000, the Richard Murphy OBE designed development is likely to see its sales reception and showhomes ready for on-site visits at the end of the year.

Yet despite this, the developer has secured eight reservations off-plan from an off-site sales office, located within a luxury city centre hotel. In addition, further sales look likely to be confirmed in the coming weeks.

Phillip Hogg, sales and marketing director for CALA Homes (East), said: ‘This is unlike any other development in Scotland, showcasing the finest of modern and historic architecture the country has to offer in a way that is shaped around the quality of life within the homes.

‘We’d urge those interested to book an appointment as soon as possible, as we’re experiencing extremely high demand and interest – despite being months away from an on-site launch.’

Early success at The Crescent comes following reports that Edinburgh has the second fastest selling times in the UK for properties priced over £1million, with supply for homes struggling to match strong demand.

Philip added: ‘Now really is a great time to be buying a premium home in Edinburgh, as the city is becoming globally renowned as a property hotspot.

‘The UNESCO status of the New Town is testament to the import of this part of the city, and being located where we are with The Crescent, with the famous architecture that surrounds us, we knew we had a duty to get it right.’

As well as the stunning design, the incredible city centre location is unmatched, on the grounds of the iconic William Playfair-designed Donaldson’s College.

Buyers not only benefit from the views of the famous building but also the privacy and feel of the large grounds – the equivalent of a country estate located a stone’s throw from Haymarket and the heart of Edinburgh.

Construction started on The Crescent in the summer of 2017, including substantial excavations to create an underground car park to ensure the visibility of cars on site is kept to a minimum once it is completed.

The entire design of the development has been sympathetic to its surroundings in Edinburgh’s New Town, with the crescent shape inspired by some of the most impressive streets which form part of the Georgian masterpiece.
