Get your skin back into tip-top condition as the spring arrives

This is the perfect time of year to give skin a post-winter boost.

One of best ways to get skin glowing is facial massage, which also de-stresses the face muscles, boosts circulation, gets rid of toxins via the lymphatic system and improves skin’s texture.

The lymphatic system has no pump like the circulatory system, so massage helps the body get rid of puffiness. Using a facial oil as part of your massage routine will rehydrate skin too.

Don’t be put off trying an oil if you are prone to breakouts, as oils work to rebalance the skin.

MBotanicals’ Rejuvenating Facial Elixir features anti-inflammatory prickly pear to nourish skin, while the Aromessence Lavandula Iris Facial Oil Serum from Decleor is a lovely oil for more mature skins, and Liz Earle’s Superskin Concentrate for Night uses a blend of oils to soften and rebalance skin.

Facial massage can be used to create a little ‘me time’ to wake you up in the morning, or at the end of the day to ready your body for sleep.

Start with a few drops of oil in the palms of your hands and press together to distribute it. Close your hands to warm the oil, then cup them over your nose and take a deep breath to relax mind and body.

Place your palms vertically on your cheeks, then horizontally onto your forehead and chin to distribute the oil evenly onto your face. Use a firm pressure and work upwards and outwards; try not to drag skin downwards.

Drain the lymphatic system around the ear and neck area by scissoring your fingers behind and in front of your ear to stimulate the lymph nodes there. Create small circles down the neck to the decolletage and sweep down under the armpits to drain any toxins from the skin.

The jaw and chin area contains hundreds of little muscles that keep this area looking tight, and massaging under the jaw and chin will help keep the area toned.

Build a little extra time into daily routines for facial massage – you’ll see and feel the benefits!
