Essential advice to stop your skin from being dull and dehydrated

As the lighter nights arrive, life is so full of temptation, from alcohol to late nights with sweet treats, which can all leave your skin looking dull and dehydrated.

Parties can lead to late nights, so skin needs extra care and we all need a bit of a lift.

Every morning, I squeeze a quarter of a lemon and grate some fresh ginger into hot water, let it sit for a few minutes, then pass it through a tea strainer and drink it. Not only does it kickstart the digestive system, it gives skin a boost too.

Drink plenty of water, and remember that salt and alcohol both dehydrate skin, while sugar slows down the production of collagen, so cut back when you can.

Double cleanse skin before bed to remove party make-up. The first cleanse gets rid of make-up – use oil-based balms or cleansers and warm water – and the second is to treat your skin with what it needs to feel balanced, comfortable and ready for the application of a serum or moisturiser.

Jurlique’s Rose Moisture Plus Moisturising Lotion is a lovely lightweight formula that hydrates and protects.

Adding a serum to your skincare routine will help boost hydration. La Roche-Posay’s Hydraphase Intense Serum is great for dehydrated, sensitive skin. Use it under your usual moisturiser and take extra care at bedtime to really work it into skin.

Apply with sweeping movements, upwards and outwards to massage the face, which helps prevent puffiness. Use an eye serum around the eye instead of an eye cream as creams can leave the eye area puffy.
Try swapping your regular foundation for a BB Cream during the day, which is a lighter alternative. MeMeMe’s Angel Face BB Cream comes in four shades to hydrate and brighten complexions (mememecosmetics.com).

A little bit of self-tan is great. It works for party looks and lifts skin tone, giving complexions a healthy glow. Exfoliate and do any hair removal before you apply your tan, then, using a tanning mitt, work from the legs up, which will help avoid creasing and lines. After doing the rest of your body, simply sweep the mitt over feet for a perfect finish.

All you need for skin that will glow.
