Whisky auction should raise £1.2million+ for charity

Port Glasgow based McLaren Packaging, a specialist supplier to the Scotch Whisky industry, is sponsoring the inaugural The Distillers One of One charity auction.

The special event is taking place at Barnbougle Castle outside Edinburgh on Friday, December 3.

Launched earlier this year, the Distillers One of One is a biennial series of auctions of Scottish whisky in aid of disadvantaged young people in Scotland.

Led by The Distiller’s Charity, the philanthropic arm of The Worshipful Company of Distillers, and in partnership with Sotheby’s, it sees the Scotch Whisky industry come together to support charitable causes.

Participating distilleries are donating ultra-rare whisky and experiences for sale at auction, valued at £1.2 million in low estimates.

The auction presents 42 lots of ultra-rare and unique Scotch whiskies and experiences, ranging in estimates from £1,000 upwards to £500,000 – all offered without reserve.

The highest value lot in the sale is a Talisker Cask of Distinction 1978, donated by Diageo and selected on account of its outstanding quality (est. £350,000-500,000).

The 43-Year-Old cask of still-maturing Talisker single malt Scotch whisky is paired with a cask-end that has been turned into an original work of art by acclaimed Scottish artist and Turner Prize nominee Callum Innes.

Proceeds from The Distillers One of One auction will benefit the Youth Action Fund, which has been created by The Distillers’ Charity to transform the life chances of 16 to 25-year-old people in Scotland, empowering them to create positive change in their lives and communities.

Donald McLaren, managing director of McLaren Packaging, said: ‘As a wholly independent Scottish manufacturer providing high quality products to a global Scotch Whisky industry demanding increasingly elaborate and bespoke sustainable packaging, we are delighted to lend our support to this exciting philanthropic venture.

‘We consider our involvement with The Distillers One of One charity auction as a reinforcement of our commitment to deliver a sustainable business with a positive impact on the communities that we operate in.’

Jonathan Driver, Immediate Past Master of The Worshipful Company of Distillers, added: ‘We are delighted to welcome McLaren Packaging as a sponsor of the inaugural The Distillers One of One charity auction in a partnership that we hope will be ongoing to the benefit of a range of charitable causes.’

The Distillers One of One sale begins at 1pm GMT on December 3. The catalogue can be viewed HERE.
