Scottish Ballet to present Cinderella this festive season

Scottish Ballet is travelling across Scotland and the north of England, as it returns with Christopher Hampson’s highly-acclaimed classic, Cinderella.

Immerse yourself in the ultimate spectacle of light, love and transformation, as Scottish Ballet close their 2018/2019 Season with the magical and much-loved Cinderella.

Cinderella opens from 8 December 2018 – 2 February 2019, touring to Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen, Inverness and Newcastle.
Scotland’s national dance company will present the magical and much-loved fairy tale, perfect for the whole family this festive season.

Returning due to popular demand, Cinderella will open on 8 December at Festival Theatre in Edinburgh, ahead of touring to Theatre Royal in Glasgow, His Majesty’s Theatre in Aberdeen, Eden Court in Inverness and Theatre Royal in Newcastle, before closing on 2 February 2019.

We meet Cinderella at the saddest of times, taken for granted by her wicked stepmother and two nasty stepsisters. There’s no time for despair however, as Cinderella’s fairy godmother is casting spells of dressmaker spiders, magical roses and a very special glass slipper.

Originally devised by Scottish Ballet’s Artistic Director Christopher Hampson for Royal New Zealand Ballet in 2007, Scottish Ballet will perform this well-known classic having staged the European premiere of Cinderella to widespread acclaim in 2015.

Spectacularly staged by Tracy Grant Lord, and set to Prokofiev’s irresistibly melodic score which is performed live by the Scottish Ballet Orchestra, Cinderella is a classic story of love and light.

Christopher Hampson, CEO/artistic director, Scottish Ballet said: ‘I’m delighted to be bringing Cinderella back and closing our current season with this timeless classic, ahead of our 50th Anniversary in 2019.

‘Created to reflect two people’s journeys of love and loss, I’m looking forward to presenting this story of light and dark, magically woven together with storytelling, set design and sound.’
