Enjoy Scotland’s dramatic dark skies under canvas

Families who enjoy the great outdoors can get together under the stars early next month.

They are being offered the chance to join an overnight camp out beneath the dramatic dark skies of the Craigengillan Estate near Loch Doon – Europe’s first UNESCO Dark Sky Reserve – from Saturday, August 4 to Sunday, August 5.

East Ayrshire Leisure’s countryside rangers will be on hand to guide attendees through den building using natural materials, how to create a own comfy hammock and how to safely light a fire, and there will be a chance to take part in traditional campfire games, as well as to enjoy delicious campfire meals and treats.

If the weather allows, relax after supper and do some star gazing before grabbing a hot chocolate from the Kelly kettle and snuggling up in your sleeping bag for the night.

In the morning, wake up to the dawn chorus and enjoy a hearty cooked breakfast before breaking camp.

Suitable for ages six and over, the event runs from 1pm on the Saturday until 10am on Sunday. Those interested should bring along their own tent. No pets are allowed.

Price is £10 per person, including evening meal and breakfast, and booking is essential, from HERE.
