Musselburgh Gold Cup seeks superheroes

BATMAN, Superman, and Wonder Woman are all expected to attend this year’s Musselburgh Gold Cup.

Musselburgh Racecourse is holding a family “superheroes’ day” on 11 September to celebrate the last of this year’s “sensational seven series” race meetings.

Children under 18 are being admitted for free when they’re accompanied by an adult, with youngsters being encouraged to dress up as their favourite superheroes.

As well as the horseracing, the day will also feature fairground rides, face painting, a kids’ disco, and prizes for the best superhero fancy dress costumes.

Last year’s gold cup was won by Haizoom, trained at Carluke by Keith Dalgleish.

Dumfriesshire-based trainer Iain Jardine is another past winner of the race, which carries a prize of £25,000.

Aisling Johnston, commercial manager at Musselburgh Racecourse, said: “We’ve had a fantastic summer season and we want to go out on a high, with an event that brings together the whole family for a spectacular finale – we can’t wait.

“Bring on the invasion of the superheroes – we’re ready for them.”

Musselburgh is also hosting its summer finale race day on 10 September.
