Doddie toasts whisky auction success

RUGBY legend Doddie Weir has toasted the results of a whisky auction, which raised more than £50,000 for his My Name’5 Doddie Foundation.

The Whisky Shop’s online auction was one of the foundation’s biggest fundraising events this year.

The charity supports people with motor neuron disease (MND) and funds research.

Foundation chief executive Jill Douglas said: “We are absolutely blown away by the generosity shown by the bidders in this very special whisky auction.

“It has been a tough few months for all charities and we are also very conscious that people are experiencing uncertainty and hardship so we want to thank everyone involved.

“A great many people worked so hard to make this a success and a huge thank you goes to the distilleries and individuals who donated this very special selection of whiskies – they have given collectors and whisky lovers a chance to buy some unique bottles while supporting our foundation.”

She added: “We have just celebrated our third anniversary and are pleased to report we have committed £5.8 million into MND Research and a further £1 million towards supporting people with motor neuron disease.

“This is only possible through your wonderful and continued support. And we have big plans for 2021 so watch this space.”
