Classic car team raises thousands for a deserving cause

A team of four friends drove a 60-year old Morgan car around Scotland for charity – with no side-screens and no roof!

They drove in an anti-clockwise direction, embarking on 12 ferry journeys visiting the outer corners of Scotland – and the team have managed to raise £25,500 for the Teenage Cancer Trust, writes Olivia Dobson.

The team consisted of Alan Biggar, Hugh McMinn, Simon Scott, Aly Hunter and Hugh Brown. Alan was in the Morgan all the way round Scotland with his fellow team mates joining the journey for a few days each. The team have completed four drives for the Teenage Cancer Trust including Radio Forth’s Cash for Kids’ Drive for the Teenage Cancer Trust in 2011 – they have now driven a total of 10,412 miles.

On breaking the 10,000 mile mark Alan Biggar said: ‘It has been great passing the 10,000 mile mark, I am just so grateful to all the sponsors, donors and those who have supported the project from the start.

‘It was a privilege spreading the word about Teenage Cancer Trust’s Nursing and Support programme, which will take expert care to young people wherever they need it- so important given the geography of Scotland.’

Alan has raised in excess of £350,000 for the charity and Audrey Murray, Teenage Cancer Trust Scotland manager has said:  ‘We’re so grateful to Alan for everything he has done for the Teenage Cancer Trust.

‘He has been a big part of the charity’s growth in Scotland and, thanks to his incredible fundraising efforts, will help us move towards our target of reaching every young person with cancer in Scotland.

‘Currently, we are only able to reach around half of those who need us, but our nursing and support service will mean our specialist nurses can reach young people, no matter where they live. “
