New owners delighted by an early dining award

Cringletie House was awarded Hotel Dining Experience of the Year at the Hotel Awards Scotland this week.

The event, organised by Creative Oceanic, is voted for by travellers and residents to show their appreciation to their favourite hotels across the country.

Located in an area of outstanding natural beauty near Peebles in the Scottish Borders, Cringletie House is a 15-bedroom hotel, set in 28 acre country estate, which includes a historic walled garden and woodland with nature trails.

The glittering ceremony for over 120 guests, took place on earlier this week at the Glasgow Marriott Hotel and welcomed industry professionals who demonstrate innovation in the market, creating memorable experiences for their guests. The awards were hosted by the author and presenter, Josie Smith.

Beating off tough competition Cringletie House took home the Hotel Dining Experience of the Year award. Iain Gourlay, head chef and Leonardo Sandri, Maitre D’Hotel picked up the award.

Hotel deputy general manager, Will Haegeland, said: ‘Following new ownership in February 2019, Cringletie is going through a redevelopment, this award is a great achievement for both the restaurant and kitchen team.

‘This summer has seen the creation of new menus throughout the hotel and the relaunch of our Sunday lunch experience. This is a great boost for the morale of our hardworking staff to receive this recognition on our journey.’

A spokesperson for the Hotel Awards Scotland 2019 said: ‘Working for the hospitality industry can be challenging at times and these awards aim to recognise those who have succeeded in this sector.

‘There are professionals who have dedicated their whole career in creating memories and experiences that will stay with their guests forever. These are the people that we try to showcase and give the recognition they deserve.’

Head chef Iain Gourlay joined the hotel in July 2018. Iain has created new menus celebrating Scottish produce, including a new Sunday lunch menu showcasing the Tweed Valley beef, which has received great acclaim since launching this summer.

Leonardo Sandri, Maitre D’Hotel joined the hotel in April 2019, he has previously worked at the Waldorf Astoria Edinburgh.
