Mark Bonnar stars in new Scots TV thriller

Scots actor Mark Bonnar returns to our TV screens this week in a thrilling new TV series.

The Shetland star appears in Guilt, a four-part new series airing from Thursday, 24 October, on BBC Scotland from 10-11pm.

When brothers Max and Jake unwittingly run over and kill an old man, their attempts to cover it up trigger consequences neither of them could ever have imagined in Guilt, a new four-part drama from Scotland with riveting plot twists and a strong vein of black humour.

In a residential street in Edinburgh, two disparate brothers, high flying lawyer Max (Mark Bonnar) and Jake a record shop owner (Jamie Sives) accidentally run down an old man, Walter, on their way home from a wedding. Uninsured and under the influence, Jake is persuaded by Max to cover up their deathly deed.

However, their hopes that the death will be passed off as natural causes are dashed as neighbours and relatives begin to suspect Walter’s death wasn’t as innocent as it seems. The brothers find their lives rapidly falling apart as their actions begin to catch up with them.

Their increasingly desperate attempts to conceal their guilt leads them further into a world where everyone seems to have a hidden agenda and they discover they can trust no-one – including each other.

Written by Neil Forsyth, Guilt also stars Emun Elliot as private investigator Kenny, Sian Brooke as Max’s wife Claire, Ruth Bradley as Walter’s American niece Angie and Ellie Haddington as Walter’s neighbour Sheila.

Speaking to Scottish Field, Mark said: ‘I really loved doing this. Working with Neil Forsyth was fantastic, as he’s such a good writer. I really enjoy his work, and these are top-notch scripts.

‘It was a good series to do, and it was a chance to come back home and work in Scotland.’

Mark, who spent most of his youth in Edinburgh, was originally raised in East Kilbride, before moving to the capital.

He said: ‘It was really nice as we got to do a bit of filming in East Kilbride. It was the first time I’d been back in years, but I didn’t get the chance to go and look at my old house and school.’

Guilt is an Expectation and Happy Tramp North Production for BBC Scotland and BBC Two. This episode of Guilt will come soon to BBC Two.
