Fantastic prizes to be won at the country fair

Sharp shooters and ace anglers can win their share of a four figure prize pot at this year’s Galloway Country Fair.

The fair will once again host its popular clay shooting and fly casting competitions, when it comes to Drumlanrig Castle and Country Estate on 18 and 19 August.

An array of prizes totalling £1600 and a shotgun are included in the winners’ pot for this year.

Sponsored by Roxtons Field Sports, the clay shooting area will have opportunities for visitors of all abilities to try their hand at clay shooting or perfect their skills. Qualified instructors will be able to answer any questions on the sport or offer advanced tips to avid shooters.

The 40-bird competition will be split into five categories – AA and A shots, B and C shots, unclassified, ladies and junior – with the competitor from each class who successfully shoots the highest number of clays entered into a draw to win the prize.

Drumlanrig Castle and Country Estate is well known for its extensive fishing offering in the region giving access to 10.5 miles over five beats of the River Nith (Nith Linns, Castle Upper, Castle Middle, Castle Lower and Mid Nithsdale) containing approximately 40 pools. Visitors keen to find out more about fishing at Drumlanrig throughout the year should stop by the Buccleuch Gillie Tent at the Fair.

The fishing programme across the weekend will include competitions for individuals and all the family as well as casting demonstrations and clinics provided by Borderlines.

The demonstrations are free to watch – simply head down to the loch and witness the experts in action. The instructors will hold a Q&A after each demo which is a perfect chance to ask any niggling questions or to practice some new tips – so grab the chance to book a casting clinic.

The clinics will run throughout the weekend offering adults 20 minutes’ expert tuition for £10 or 10 minutes’ tuition for juniors (16 years and under) at just £2.
