Get ready for a beer spa treatment this weekend

Dry January has become a phenomenon, but with four weeks of detox almost complete and February being only days away, Heverlee is offering a novel way to ease out of abstinence – with the UK’s first official ‘beer spa’ treatment.

Belgian beer, Heverlee, has teamed up with renowned men’s grooming company, Ruffians in Edinburgh, to provide a luxury spa treatment incorporating the premium lager.

On Saturday, 1 February, people will be able to book in for the exclusive Belgian beer facial at Ruffian’s on Queensferry Street, and then enjoy a perfectly served pint of Heverlee at a local bar following their pampering.

Beer spas have been popular in continental Europe for centuries, with the liquid being said to have healing qualities that leads to people bathing in beer pools to make their skin glow.

The liquid has vast dermatological benefits when applied to skin, including reducing skin irritations, balancing pH levels, dissolving dead skin cells, clearing pores and increasing elasticity.

Angus Lawrie, brand manager at Heverlee said: ‘Together with Ruffians, we’ve created a unique treatment that leaves beer-lovers and wellness-seekers’ skin feeling revitalised, as they prepare to ease out of Dry January.

‘Many historic beer treatments come from Heverlee’s Belgian home, and since the town of ‘Spa’, where the term was originated, is only an hour away from our beer’s spiritual home in Leuven, it couldn’t be more perfect.

‘We’re looking forward to an afternoon of ultimate R&R with Heverlee at Ruffians this Saturday.’

The beer facial is made using a secret combination of Heverlee beer, and Ruffians’ own facial product ingredients.

Paul Keenan, manager at Ruffians said: ‘Our hope is that customers leave our shop every day feeling revitalised and ready to boss it – and with this special beer treatment, we’re providing that in a really unique way.

‘We pride ourselves on staying ahead of the curve on grooming trends, and we’re looking forward to introducing this experience to our clients.’

To book the treatment at Ruffians Edinburgh, phone 0131 225 8962 – limited spots will be available, on Saturday 1 February only.
