An invitation to visit school’s new buildings

Ayrshire’s only independent school has opened its new building, Craigweil Lodge, this week.

Wellington School headmaster Simon Johnson believes the opening of Craigweil Lodge represents a very significant step in the evolution of Wellington School.

It’s also a safer step as pupils will be able to move freely between buildings without having to go out onto the public pavement along Craigweil Road, in Ayr.

He said: ‘It provides us with additional accommodation of the highest quality, but it also forges a link between the existing buildings of Carleton Turrets and Craigweil House.

‘Wellington School now has a single, coherent campus and the development potential of this wonderful seafront site has been well and truly unlocked. We are currently working in partnership with prestigious architects Austin-Smith: Lord on a long-term masterplan for the campus and this is very close to publication.

‘It is an exciting time to be part of the Wellington story. The new Lodge contains an additional P7 classroom. It is worth noting that, for the first time, we have required three P7 classes this session in order to ensure favourable class sizes of no more than 20.

‘It also contains an additional social studies classroom, a staff work room and an attractive new Support for Learning Hub. Equally significantly, the Lodge and its grounds link up Carleton Turrets and Craigweil House, creating a single coherent campus. ‘This also frees up the development potential of our site and the publication of a long-term masterplan is imminent.’

Chair of the Board of Governors, Jennifer Simpson, has been instrumental in developing the plans for expansion.

She added: ‘We cannot afford to stand still and the board are continually looking at ways to move the school forward.

‘The opening of the Lodge is one step in many that the board are currently working towards and we are looking forward to unveiling the other plans that we have been working on very soon.’

Wellington is hosting Open Events today and tomorrow, on December 4 and 5 of December. The Lodge will be open
for current and prospective parents to view.
