Thousands of visitors bathed in the sunshine to watch this year’s annual Loch Lomond Highland Games.
More than 8000 people attended the event, in Moss O’Balloch Park, where they were treated to a host of traditional highland game competitions including cycling, running, hammer throwing and heavy weights and the traditional tossing of the caber and tug-of-war.
Dancers entertained the audience by performing traditional highland dances with their immaculate costumes and perfect hair, and spectators enjoyed music from Helensburgh and Clan Colquhoun and Tulliallan Pipe Bands.
The popular games welcomed visitors from as far afield as America, Italy, France, Belgium, China and Canada who travelled to Scotland to enjoy the traditional Scottish games.

Ten-year-old Canadian Highland Dancer, Fiona Urquhart, from Lethbridge, Alberta, said: ‘I had a great time today and I was very proud to dance in front of my Scottish family. I started Scottish dancing as my grandparents were both Scottish dancers.’
West Dunbartonshire depute provost, Councillor Karen Conaghan, said: ‘What a fantastic day and the great weather certainly helped bring out the crowds. Well done to all the competitors for putting on such a great show and thanks to the spectators for supporting the high quality sport we saw.

The Loch Lomond Highland Games is always a great family day out and this year there really was something for everyone. I would like to thank both the Games’ committee and West Dunbartonshire Leisure on organising this very successful event.’
The Chieftain of the Loch Lomond Highland Games, Major James Macrae said: ‘The weather has been very kind to us this year which has significantly increased the turn-out at this year’s event.
‘I am delighted with this year’s event which has been a great success and is a great testament to everyone involved in organising it. I would like to thank everyone who played their part in making this year’s games a huge success. On behalf of the committee, I would like to thank our contestants and sponsors, in particular West Dunbartonshire Council, for their continued support.’
