The island with a whisky for every palate

Whisky has been distilled on the windswept Hebridean island of Islay since the 18th century.

The Queen of the Hebrides currently has eight distilleries producing some of the best quality whisky on the market. Rintoul  documents in fascinating detail how each whisky is produced in this glossy, informative book.

There’s also one of her poems for each distillery and plenty of beautiful photographs from Borkowski, it’s just a pity that all the captions are at the back of the book rather than on the relevant pages.

Tsting notes on the main malts and blends are also included, proving that Islay does indeed produce ‘a dram for every palate’.

Whisky Island by Fiona Rintoul and Konrad Borkowski, published by Freight Books, £20.
