Ex-Wimbledon duo to compete at garden party

Champagne, socialising and sport will be at the heart of a unique garden party coming to Gleneagles next month.

Gleneagles will host an exciting new twist on the traditional summer garden party, where guests will experience the heritage and glamour of days gone by on the lawns of the iconic Perthshire property.

The event will recreate the glorious summers of the 1920s.

Taking place on Sunday 24 June, just a week before Wimbledon, the centrepiece of the day will be a legends tennis match featuring former Wimbledon players Xavier Malisse and Henri Leconte.

They will face each other with wooden rackets in the natural arena of the Gleneagles outdoor courts, where tennis has been played for the best part of a century.

The garden party will begin with a Veuve Clicquot Champagne reception for guests on the hotel terrace with live jazz music by the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, and canapes showcasing the finest Scottish ingredients.

The famous Gleneagles Afternoon Tea will be served before the match unfolds, showcasing products from the Gleneagles & Co artisan food range along with cucumber sandwiches, sumptuous cakes from the award-winning Gleneagles pastry chefs, and traditional Perthshire strawberries and cream.

To match the mood, croquet will also be played on the front lawn, with lessons and help for beginners.
Gleneagles general manager, Conor O’Leary, said: ‘We’re thrilled to be reviving this summer tradition from our heritage and can’t wait to welcome Xavier and Henri to our courts.’

Tickets cost £150 per person and include the champagne reception, afternoon tea, entertainment, and the legends tennis match.
