A special Scotch whisky marks Man United’s treble

Sir Alex Ferguson led Manchester United to a historic trophy treble 20 years ago – and a special Scotch whisky has been released to commemorate the occasion.

Chivas has unveiled a new luxury Scotch whisky, Chivas Ultis 1999 Victory Edition, to mark the 20th anniversary of Manchester United’s memorable treble-winning season.

To celebrate the launch, the official spirits partner of Manchester United gifted the first bottles to deserving backroom staff, recognising the exceptional blend of people who contributed to the most successful season in the club’s history.

Chivas Ultis 1999 Victory Edition is the first whisky Chivas has created for the Club that will be available for fans to purchase. The precious 20-year old blended Scotch whisky unites three hand-selected single malts distilled in 1999, each representing one of Manchester United’s cup victories during the famous Treble season.

Amongst the staff celebrated was Albert Morgan, Manchester United’s official kit man during the 1999 season, who has been at the Club since 1996. Morgan played an integral role in the Manchester United dressing room in ‘99, not only ensuring each player was properly prepared for the match ahead, but also acting as a confidant, helping to motivate the team and celebrate their successes.

Albert said: ‘There were some massive moments on the field that season – from Giggsy’s goal against Arsenal in the FA Cup to Andrew Cole’s chip to beat Spurs on the last game of the season – but it’s great to see Chivas celebrating the achievements of the staff behind the scenes too. This is a special football club – it’s like a family to me – and the efforts of every member of staff contributes to its successes.’

Additional backroom staff that were also celebrated, recognised for their efforts at the club and given a bottle of Chivas Ultis 1999 Victory Edition were: Marie Marron – Football Administration, Kath Phipps – Club Receptionist, Alec Wylie – Kit Manager, David Lindop – Assistant Head Groundsman, Joe Pemberton – Head Groundsman and Stuart Slater – Maintenance.

Sandy Hyslop, Chivas director of blending, commented: ‘Here at Chivas we firmly believe that great things can be achieved when people come together, and Manchester United is a perfect example of this philosophy. The treble-winning season of 1999 is a historic moment in world football, and we’re honoured to be marking it with a new moment in Chivas’ history – our first ever 20 year old blended malt Scotch whisky.’

The Chivas Ultis 1999 Victory Edition will be available globally from October 2019.
