The perfect place to pop the question for Valentine’s

A Scots castle has created the ultimate map for men looking to propose in a romantic location this Valentine’s Day.

With so many planning a proposal, the iconic Blair Castle in the heart of Highland Perthshire has launched a guide to help those confused by the countless choices to create that unforgettable moment.

The Map for Misguided Men features five of its most popular beauty spots and to make the day memorable, between Friday 14 and Sunday 16 February, the team can organise fizz, special picnics and much more to be delivered to the perfect spot to pop the question.

For those looking for a romantic setting the 145,000 acre estate offers several idyllic rural locations to propose. The path from the castle passes through Diana’s Grove, a tranquil wooded area which is home to a Grand Fir, which is the tallest tree in Scotland and the UK’s second tallest tree standing at 62.70 metres high.

Another option is Bruar Falls, which has been around for over 200 years and was even visited by Robert Burns in 1787 where he wrote ‘The Humble Petition of Bruar Water’ as a request to the 4th Duke of Atholl to surround the falls with trees.

One of the most picturesque places in the grounds, The Whim is an eye-catching folly standing on a bank to the north of the castle. Dating from 1761, this façade is pierced with gothic arches set behind a parapet wall linking two small pavilions. For those looking to include the castle, the Forecourt is an appealing alternative. Built in 1269, it boasts view of the area with the main building providing an iconic backdrop.

The final place on the list is the charming ruin of St Bride’s Kirk. Dating back to Celtic times, the ancient walls and open roof give it a mystical atmosphere, perfect for the intimate occasion, providing unique surroundings for the proposal.

The Whim at Blair Castle

Julia Sim, head of sales and marketing at Blair Castle, said: ‘Valentine’s Day is the most romantic day of the year, but we recognise that getting down on one knee and asking the question can be quite stressful. So, we thought we would make life a little bit easier and create our Map for Misguided Men to help arrange the perfect celebration.

‘Our castle is no stranger to love and the places included in the guide have been the most popular for cherished occasions throughout our 750 years of history. If you’re planning to ask for your partners hand in marriage this Valentine’s weekend, get in touch and we will help you create an unforgettable experience.’
