A drinks on demand service has been named Online Business of the Year at the third annual Scottish SME Business Awards.

Drinkly.co.uk (Drinkly), the Edinburgh-based delivery service fought off competition from nine other finalists to scoop the category award, one of thirty contested.

Drinkly launched on 30 November 2016, and quenches the thirsts of over 5600 regular customers in Edinburgh and Glasgow by delivering chilled drinks door to door in under one hour.

John Robertson, founder and CEO of Drinkly, said: ‘It’s incredible that we were nominated for this award by members of the public. Their nominations are vindication that the huge amount of work that went in to making our platform as user-friendly as possible, and the ongoing effort we put in to delivering a five-star service, are working. And that’s all down to a small team of hugely dedicated and talented individuals.’

Two hundred guests attended the black-tie ceremony in Glasgow, hosted by STV presenter Josie Smith, which recognise the businesses and business leaders at the forefront of Scotland’s economic backbone. SMEs drive over half of total revenue in the UK (ONS) and there are more than 140,000 SMEs currently operating in Scotland (Bizdaq).

A spokesperson for the Scottish SME Business Awards 2019, said: ‘These awards are the leading celebration of the SME businesses that work tirelessly to offer services that are second to no-one.

‘The event provided a platform to showcase new, online, unique and family run SME businesses amongst other that had an amazing performance over the past year and have seen growth, despite the negativity that exists in the business world.

‘We really appreciate the response from the public that was so keen to go behind our nomination process and vote for some incredible businesses and individuals. The competition was fierce this year and therefore we would like to congratulate all finalists and winners for their amazing achievements.’

In addition, the awards supported The Well Foundation, an organisation that provides clean drinking water to countries in need.
