New Tamdhu is in good spirits for festival

Tamdhu Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky has launched its second distillery exclusive limited edition Dalbeallie Dram at this year’s Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival.

The celebratory bottling honours the old Dalbeallie train station that sits alongside the distillery. It also celebrates the role that Victorian railways played in receiving Tamdhu’s precious sherry oak casks from Spain to Speyside over a century ago.

Completed in 1899, Dalbeallie Station has recently been restored to its full splendour, including the waiting room and signal box. The listed building continues to host events and tastings at the Spirit of Speyside Festival.

Individually numbered and bottled at cask strength 61.1% ABV, non-chillfiltered and natural colour, Tamdhu Dalbeallie Dram 002 has been matured in European and American Oak Oloroso seasoned casks from the cooperages of Jerez in Spain’s ‘Sherry Triangle’, reflecting Tamdhu’s commitment to producing ‘only the best’ sherry cask matured whisky.

Carefully chosen by the distillery team, Tamdhu Dalbeallie Dram 002 has notes of sticky toffee pudding, blackcurrant, and chocolate, ginger biscuit, walnuts, vanilla and dry sherry on the nose, with a silky palate of rich sherry oak, crème caramel, juicy fruits and gentle zestiness. Sherry notes really build to the finish, including clementine, lemon curd and pleasing spice. Like every bottle of Tamdhu, the rich natural colour comes from sherry casks alone.

Sandy McIntryre, Tamdhu Distillery manager, said: ‘We’re really excited to be launching our second exclusive limited edition Dalbeallie Dram at this year’s Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival.

‘Dalbeallie Dram 002 adds to the Collector’s Journey started by the Dalbeallie Dram last year which is a Finalist at The Spirit of Speyside Whisky Awards 2019.

‘Wood connoisseurs owe much to Dalbeallie Station. Until its closure over 50 years ago, this was where our precious sherry oak casks arrived from Spain and Tamdhu began its passage to the world.

‘Although the station closed in 1965, our story does not end there. Like Tamdhu distillery itself, we have restored Dalbeallie station to its full splendour. It is now a well-loved landmark for walkers on the Speyside Way, as they retrace the route of the former railway.’

All whisky at Tamdhu is exclusively matured in the finest Oloroso sherry seasoned oak casks. These exceptionally rare oak casks bear two great gifts: colour and taste. Only the best Oloroso sherry seasoned American and European oak casks give Tamdhu its distinctive colour and flavour.

The copper tones in the single malt are developed naturally through contact with the sherry seasoned casks, which are crafted in the family cooperages and bodegas of Jerez for up to six years before beginning their journey to Scotland.

Tamdhu Dalbeallie Dram 002 will be available to purchase at the Tamdhu Distillery as part of the Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival (2-6 May) and from today as an online exclusive on the Tamdhu website at RRP £90.00 per 70cl bottle (61.1% ABV).
