Fun in store for kids with a junior Highland Games

A Scottish castle is getting ready to host a junior Highland Games this month.

Castle Fraser in Aberdeenshire, one of Scotland’s largest tower houses is offering a family day out with a difference.

The junior Highland Games will take place at the National Trust for Scotland property on 27 May, and are a great opportunity for youngsters to get outdoors and get active.

The games, aimed at children between the ages of 5-12 will comprise of 13 different activities including wheelbarrow and skipping races, haggis throwing, log tossing and tug of war. All activities will take place on the impressive events field to the East of the Castle.

Famous faces helping out on the day include legendary heavyweight champion Bruce Aitken and ex-All Blacks player Pete Hart. Andrea Brymer from STV will also be on site to lend a hand with judging the events.

A Pet Parade will be judged by Colin Slesser, Aberdeen and Northern Marts and participants are encouraged to make sure their pets are dressed to impress.

Paula Swan, visitor services manager at Castle Fraser said: ‘The junior Highland Games is the first event of its kind at the castle and we’re really looking forward to a day of sporting action. This promises to be a great day out for all the family.’

In between events entertainment will be provided by the Gordon School of Dance and pipe band performances. There will also be stalls, face painting and a bouncy castle.
