Scottish music will be at the heart of BBC Scotland’s output next week, with a selection of musical treats as part of BBC Music Day.
Next Friday, 28 September, the day will begin in style with a moment of musical magic that will stop commuters in their tracks at one of Scotland’s busiest railway stations.
Singer-songwriter Amy Macdonald will be joined by Scotland’s award winning community choir, SoundSational, to sing her hit, This is the Life, at Glasgow’s Central Station during the morning rush-hour and the performance will be aired across the UK on Breakfast on BBC One.
Amy and the choir will also feature shortly afterwards on BBC Radio Scotland’s airwaves including on the Stephen Jardine Programme with a performance of a new song, Women of the World.
The theme of this year’s initiative is celebrating women in music and on Thursday 27 September, at 11.15pm there’ll be a special programme of The Quay Sessions on BBC Two Scotland to set the tone.
Roddy Hart presents stand-out performances from a selection of talented women who’ve graced The Quay Stage – including Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Lissie, Kathryn Joseph, Lisa Hannigan and Jade Bird.
Also on BBC Radio Scotland on Thursday there’ll be an edition of Get it On with Bryan Burnett focusing on music that connects with people with dementia.
On BBC One Scotland at 11.25pm on Friday, 28 September, there’ll be another chance to see Texas at the Barrowland with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, a highlight from BBC Music Day, 2017. This will also be on BBC Radio Scotland at 6.05pm.
And later on BBC Radio Scotland, at 8.05pm that evening there’s Ricky Ross meets Gilbert O’Sullivan when Ricky’s guest shares the stories behind his songs, performances and biggest hits and talks about the songwriters who influenced him. The station will also give another chance to listen to documentaries on The Barrowlands with Vic Galloway at 7.05pm and on The Associates with Bryan Burnett at 9.05pm.
Now in its fourth year, BBC Music Day is an annual celebration of the power of music to change lives. This pan-BBC initiative features live music events and performances across the UK involving famous musicians, choirs and local community music groups.
