Why not try the Six Nations Pie this weekend?

The Six Nations rugby championship brings together rugby fans from all the participating countries – and now there’s something for the egg-chasing foodies too!

A restaurant owner from Edinburgh has come up with a recipe that will galvanise at least five of the countries in the Six Nations!

Calum Mackay, who runs the Old Chain Pier and Malt and Hops in Leith, has come up with the Six Nations Pie and it will be available for the mass invasion of Welsh fans this week.

Calum said: ‘I was kicking around menu ideas with my chef and we’ve hit on the concept of the Six Nations Pie.
‘The recipe features local Scots game, Guinness, Leek, a splash of Chianti, a touch of smoked French garlic and some deliciously flaky (how appropriate after last Saturday!) English puff pastry.’

Some of Calum’s regulars don’t share his optimism that England will be flaky at all against Scotland after looking very stale against Wales., and are suggesting that Calum prepares another pastry-crusted meal for Calcutta Cup matchday, just in case – humble Ppe!

The Six Nations Pie will be available until 16 March to coincide with National Pie Weekend and also during the run up to the Scotland v Wales game on 9 March.

Calum looks forward to welcoming Welsh fans, and added: ‘The Welsh are always great fun and it doesn’t matter who wins or loses- the beer flows and the craic is brilliant. I’ve even got a couple of staff  members with Welsh blood so I’m sure the friendly  rivalry in the Old Chain Pier and Malt and Hops will be good fun.

‘We hope Welsh fans will join us during their stay in Edinburgh.’

You can book a table at the Old Chain Pier, 32 Trinity Crescent, Edinburgh, via www.oldchainpier.com.
