Edinburgh Castle will be in the pink next month – quite literally.
The iconic building will turn pink on the night of Saturday 9 June, in honour of thousands of women, men and young walkers taking part in the 13th MoonWalk Scotland.
MoonWalk Scotland is a fantastic night walk, giving participants the chance to experience Edinburgh at night like never before. It’s a chance to unite with Walk the Walk against breast cancer, with many of the women taking part doing it in their bras.
Lloyds on the Mound will also form part of the City’s striking pink skyline, as the Capital unites with MoonWalk organisers, breast cancer charity Walk the Walk.
Camera Obscura, St Giles Cathedral, Queen Victoria at the National Galleries, the Royal Society of Edinburgh and the Meville Monument at St Andrew Square will also glow pink, raising awareness and uniting against breast cancer, as will hotels across Edinburgh, including the Radisson Blu, The Balmoral and The Principal at Charlotte Square.
Department stores Jenners and House of Fraser will be supporting The MoonWalk with special window displays and by offering mini makeovers for walkers on the day of the event.
Founder and chief executive of Walk the Walk, Nina Barough CBE said: ‘I am delighted that so many of Edinburgh’s historic buildings and landmarks will be lighting up pink for all our MoonWalkers.
‘If you haven’t yet signed up, what an incentive to pull on your trainers, get a team together and take on a walking challenge – maybe the 6.55 miles New Moon, which is just perfect for families. Imagine as a ten year old, looking up at Edinburgh Castle or Lloyds on the Mound, knowing that they are lit up pink just for you – to give you a personal hug of encouragement, as you walk through the City’s streets!

Setting off from Holyrood Park, Edinburgh at Midnight, women and men wearing brightly decorated bras will take on one of four walking challenges:- The New Moon (6.55 miles – open to people aged 10 and over), Half Moon (13.1 miles), Full Moon (26.2 miles) or Over The Moon (52.4 miles).
Registration for the double marathon Over The Moon is now closed, but entries for the shorter distances are open until midnight on Monday, 28 May.
More than 80,000 walkers have taken part in The MoonWalk Scotland since the event started in 1996, and so far, more than £20.5 million has been raised to improve the lives of those living with cancer in the country.
