As the summer days and nights begin to fade, here’s hoping that September isn’t a complete wash out when it comes to weather.
However, if the rain does happen to strike as you’re out and about enjoying your weekend, you could duck into any number of iconic local buildings across Scotland for some shelter and a nosey around.
Doors Open Days 2018 will see 1000 buildings, some of which are not normally open to the public, invite people to step inside and explore.
The list of buildings taking part include Cawdor House and grounds, Forth and Clyde Canal Society, Stonehaven Harbour and Tolbooth Museum and the most northerly mosque in the UK, Inverness Masjid.
If you happen to be in the Inverclyde area this weekend, why not pay Greenock Sheriff Court a visit? You’ll be able to witness the trial of the century as Dorothy takes to the stand, accused by the Wicked Witch of the West of stealing the shiny ruby slippers. Children in the audience will be invited to act as the jury.
This is just one of the fun filled activities on offer for kids during the Doors Open Days.
The whole event, which began back in 1990 and is Scotland’s largest free festival, is being coordinated by the Scottish Civic Trust and is supported by Historic Environment Scotland. It aims to provide people with a deeper insight into Scotland’s history and architectural heritage by giving them access to a wider range of buildings.
