Podcast marks the rise of Scots golfer Bob MacIntyre

This year has been a remarkable one for young Scots golfer Bob MacIntyre.

The 23-year-old from Oban has made a huge impact on the European Tour this year, as joint runner-up in the 2019 Betfred British Masters. He was runner-up in the Made in Denmark tournament, then in July 2019, he made his Open Championship debut at Royal Portrush, finishing in a tie for sixth.

On 14 October, Bob became the leading Scot on the Official World Golf Ranking for the first time after finishing in a tie for fourth at the Italian Open. He finished the season as the leading rookie on the Race to Dubai rankings (11th place) and took the Sir Henry Cotton Rookie of the Year award.

Bob has come a long way in a very short space of time. In 2013, he became the first player to win the Scottish Youths’ Championship and Scottish Boys’ Strokeplay Championship in the same year.

As a result, he won the Adam Hunter Award at the 2014 Scottish Golf Awards – just weeks before he won the Sir Henry Cooper Junior Masters, one of the top under-18 events on the Great Britain & Ireland calendar.

In 2015, he won the Scottish Amateur Championship, and then lost in the final of the Amateur Championship.

Bob turned professional in late 2017 and that November, made the final stage of the European Tour Q-school. He finished tied for 37th place to secure a 2018 Challenge Tour card. He successfully won a card for the 2019 tour after his exploits last year.

Our colleagues at the Oban Times have been following his career – they have recorded a podcast, in which presenters Stephen Day, George Graham and Keith McIntyre chat about Bob, and his rise and rise.
