Getting set for Easter race day in Musseburgh

It is the Scottish raceday which received the royal seal of approval from Her Majesty The Queen herself – and Easter Saturday is set to return to Musselburgh Racecourse for 2018 on 31 March.

As one of the biggest social events of the Easter weekend, this year the five star visitor attraction has added family entertainments and free entry for children, as under-17s go free when accompanied by a paying adult,  to its hotly anticipated line up.

Racing enthusiasts and those in search of a great day out over the holiday weekend will enjoy an Easter spectacular of first-class racing including the £100,000 Queen’s Cup highlight.

Proving an ideal destination for groups looking for an Easter get together with a difference, the raceday features a number of food and drink packages to appeal as well as music from Funk Wagon.

For those wanting a family day out, there will be a host of family entertainments to keep even the most energetic of youngsters entertained.

A dedicated Kids Zone on the Linkfield Lawn will cater for children of all ages, from toddlers to teenagers, and will feature a variety of fun fair rides, all free of charge. As well as the ever popular face painting and game stalls, the Easter Bunny makes a return for 2018 and will be celebrating the holiday weekend with little racegoers, handing out chocolate eggs for those looking for a sweet treat. There will be an Easter Egg hunt too for those looking to have their own win on Easter Saturday.

To keep the Easter celebrations going there’s a range of raceday packages available, such as Gourmet Pie & Pint for £40 including admission and race programme as well as a pie from Artisan supplier, Pie Not, chips and a pint. For those who prefer some salt and sauce then the Fish & Chip Package (£40) will appeal and comes with a bottle of cold beer, house wine or soft drink.

Beef lovers will enjoy the Aberdeen Angus Burger & Beer Package (£40) featuring a “Well Hung and Tender” freshly cooked burger, topped with Lockerbie cheddar cheese, fried onions and chips. This is served with a bottle of beer, wine or soft drink.

And for those looking for some sparkle, then the Pommery Pop Package which includes a 200ml of champagne, will hit the spot. VIP and hospitality packages are also available. All packages include admission and race programmes.

Aisling Johnston, marketing manager, Musselburgh Racecourse, said: ‘The inaugural Easter Saturday raceday was a huge success last year and we’re excited for this year’s event which is set to be a real highlight of the racing calendar once again.

‘As well as exhilarating racing and a number of food and drink outlets, we’ve expanded the offering to include a wide range of family attractions to keep the whole family entertained and create an altogether different holiday weekend experience that is just as fun for adults as it is the children. After all, it’s our Easter break too!’

Easter Saturday’s Queen’s Cup was launched in 2017 following Her Majesty’s longstanding relationship with Musselburgh Racecourse. Having opened the Queen’s Stand back in 1995, Her Majesty returned in 2016 on the racecourse’s 200th anniversary to present the specially commissioned Bi-Centenary Cup.
