The Battle of Prestonpans

Children aged between 10 and 17 are being invited to take part in a brand new project to mark the 275th anniversary of the Battle of Prestonpans, one of the most significant battles in Scottish history.

Entries which commemorate the battle – which can be in prose, poetry or art and design – should be sent to organiser between 16 April and 20 December 2020, with the best submissions published online and included in a special commemorative book.

This focus on the dramatic Jacobite victory against all the odds in 1745 which transformed the rebellion sparked by the young Bonnie Prince Charlie’s return from exile is an ideal activity for homeschoolers.

Entries can be from an Jacobite or Hanoverian perspective but should reflect one of the following key themes: the prince has landed; a call to arms; on the march; battle; victory and defeat; looking back.
