Heart in the Highlands? Your heart could be here

A beautiful former croft in the Scottish Highlands has been brought to the market.

Presented for sale by Goldsmith Estates, Barnhill is a delightful cottage and sits within a lovely one acre garden. Sitting in an elevated position within the landscaped grounds the property enjoys stunning views over the pond to the mountains beyond.

The cottage is located on the outskirts of the charming village of Glenelg and is within walking distance of the renowned Glenelg Inn, village shop and local amenities.

Inside Barnhill, which offers lots of space

It comes with a wooden potting shed, polytunnel and stone byre, which offers a great opportunity for further development (subject to consent). This beautiful south facing property offers a tranquil base to explore the wonderful West coast and could be a superb family home or stunning Highland retreat.

Nestled amongst shrubs and herbaceous borders Barnhill is in a spectacular position within its plot and enjoys splendid views out across the surrounding hills. True to its traditional character the cottage has open fireplaces and beautiful panelled walls.

Bursting with charm it also offers spacious, versatile living accommodation. The landscaped mature gardens extend to around an acre and boast many quiet corners to explore, sit and enjoy the wonderful views. The garden comes complete with its own charming burn, sunny patio, raised vegetable beds and a traditional potting shed.

There is comfort to be had at Barnhill

Barnhill is a delight – sympathetically extended to offer a spacious kitchen and third bedroom/summer sitting room. The upstairs is open plan and is flooded with light and is a wonderful addition offering an adaptable space with lovely views.

With a further two bedrooms, cosy sitting room, kitchen/dining room and a downstairs bathroom, there is no shortage of space.

The original features and traditional layout make it a very flexible and appealing cottage and offers good ceiling height as well as lots of natural light.

With the holiday letting potential and the possibility of converting the stone outbuilding into additional accommodation, this property has a lot to offer.

Glenelg is a picturesque village which until 200 years ago was the main crossing point to the Isle of Skye. A small ferry still makes the short crossing to Skye and is the only manual turntable commercial ferry in the world. The narrow strait has fierce currents but these make an ideal playground for numerous seals and otters which can easily been seen from the ferry.

It is a memorable drive to the ferry on either side with narrow winding roads reaching an impressive elevation on the mainland. The area around Glenelg is a walker’s paradise. Visitors can explore any or all of the Five Sisters of Kintail and for the really ambitious there is the Cluanie Ridge, which takes in no fewer than seven Munros in one long scenic hike. Alternatively, there is a great opportunity to keep a boat moored in the bay at Glenelg and use it to explore the many secret coves and sandy beaches nearby including Sandaig.

With great diving, sailing and kayaking opportunities, Glenelg is a haven for the intrepid adventurer.

The famous Glenelg Inn, described by Bill Bryson as an ‘outpost of comfort and graciousness’, is a mere half mile amble from the cottage and serves as an ideal pit stop to recharge the batteries after a long day exploring.
