Travel Over Land and Sea for new art display

Over Land and Sea is a new group art exhibition being presented by the Scottish Ornithologists’ Club.

It brings together three painters Tim Wootton, Darren Rees and Daniel Cole and a sculptor, Simon Griffiths to focus on wildlife captured at a particular moment.

All are established wildlife artists and members of the Society of Wildlife Artists (SWLA).
Tim Wootton draws inspiration from the wilderness of Orkney where he lives, translating it into a wide range of media from oils to acrylic and watercolours.

Darren Rees is based in Stirling but travels the world as an artist and as a guide, his work reflecting these wide-ranging trips without neglecting the beauty on his doorstep.

Daniel Cole lives in Cornwall and creates sweeping paintings often giving a birds’ eye view of the world.

Simon Griffiths, based in Co Durham, works in ceramics producing sculptures that always hint at the world beyond the subject.

While they share a passion for nature, and a life-long dedication to the subject, these artists each bring their very personal approaches to it, often delighting the viewer with contrasting takes on a shared experience.

Simon Griffiths will give a sculpture demonstration at the opening of the exhibition on Saturday 25 May, 2-4pm, all welcome.

The exhibition runs from Saturday 25 May until Wednesday 3 July. Open daily, 10am to 4pm, at The Scottish Ornithologists’ Club, Aberlady, East Lothian.

The Scottish Ornithologists’ Club is charity promoting the study of birds in Scotland. Scotland’s national bird club with over 3000 members and a network of 15 branches across Scotland, it hosts a programme of talks, discussions and outings for its members and the general public.

Waterston House is fully accessible and houses a resource centre for bird-watching including a shop, the largest ornithological reference library in Scotland and an art gallery dedicated to wildlife art. The centre is open to all (members and non-members) free of charge.
