Exclusive whiskies coming to UK airport stores

An exclusive travel retail range for premium Highland Single Malt Scotch whisky brand Glengoyne is coming to all World Duty Free managed UK airport stores.

Ian Macleod Distillers, one of the world’s top 10 whisky suppliers, is introducing its Glengoyne Spirit of Oak Collection, which includes four Highland Single Malt expressions, each carefully created to showcase the exceptional sherry oak casks used to mature Glengoyne Distillery’s unique spirit.

The collection is presented in an award-winning range of distinctive gift packs, sporting embossed descriptors and the signature of Glengoyne Distillery manager, Robbie Hughes.

Available in World Duty Free stores across UK airports from this month are Glengoyne Cuartillo and Glengoyne BalbaĂna.
Glengoyne Cuartillo 1L (RRP ÂŁ49.99) is matured with hand-selected first fill American Oak Oloroso sherry casks at its heart and has notes of toffee, green apple and vanilla, with a hint of cinnamon. Glengoyne BalbaĂna 1L (RRP ÂŁ58.99) by contrast has first fill European Oak Oloroso sherry casks at its heart and is reminiscent of luxurious honey, with raisins, red apples and cloves.

Launching in January 2019 are Glengoyne Pedro Xíménez Cask Finish and Glengoyne 28 Year Old. The super-premium Glengoyne Pedro Xíménez Cask Finish 70cl (RRP £89) is rich and intense with flavours of fresh oak, spice and a touch of caramelised sugar on the palate, following careful maturation in European and American oak and a finish in fine Pedro Xíménez sherry casks, making it a great gift.

The ultra-premium and very scarce Glengoyne 28 Year Old 70cl (RRP £420) is complex, with a heart of rich fruit and elegant spice, following over a quarter century in the finest first fill sherry casks – a dram with exceptional heritage.

Ian Macleod Distillers’ global travel retail director, William Ovens, said: ‘We are delighted that Glengoyne is returning to UK airports, as we know there have been frequent requests from travellers and malt enthusiasts as they have been passing through UK airports.

‘Our range gives consumers the unique opportunity to explore whiskies which have been matured in a range of high quality sherry oak casks – a process which is rooted in the DNA of Glengoyne.’

Known as the unhurried malt, Glengoyne Highland Single Malt Scotch whisky is crafted to a 200 year old recipe and process which uses the slowest stills in Scotland and is famously one of the only Scottish whiskies to be distilled from completely unpeated malted barley.

Glengoyne, a name which has evolved from the gaelic Glenguin, which means Glen of the Wild Geese, dates back to 1833 and is the most southern of the Highland distilleries and considered to be one of Scotland’s most beautiful. Located barely 15 miles north of Glasgow it is ranked in the top three most visited distilleries in Scotland, with over 87,000 visitors in 2017.
