Public house opens its doors to the public

Public House by Nico, Chef Nico Simeone’s much-anticipated new gastropub restaurant, is now open.

Occupying a prime position at 333 Great Western Road in Glasgow, Public House by Nic’ brings modern British gastropub cuisine to Glasgow’s West End, under the direction of Nico.

Following in the success of his award-winning sister restaurants Six by Nico and 111 by Nico, Public House by Nico offers a broad selection of seasonal small plates underpinned by larger dishes to be enjoyed on their own or shared as well as a weekend Breakfast and Brunch and a mouthwatering Sunday Roast offering.

Dishes on the menu include; Beer Batter Fish of the Day, Tartare Sauce, Mushy Peas; Flat Iron, Chimmicurri, Smoked Tomato Compote, Flat Cap mushroom; Chestnut Gnocchi, Sprout Tops, Smoked Pancetta, Sage; Cauliflower Soup, Gribiche, Tempura Cauliflower and Curried Monkfish, Mussel, Bok Choi & Lime.

Sunday Roast is at the heart of service very Sunday at Public House by Nico served from 12 noon until 5pm with 2 Course for £19 and 3 Courses for £23. Mains include Bone in Ayrshire Pork Chop served with apple sauce or Roast Speyside Sirloin – both served with yorkshire puddings, beef dripping roast potato, cauliflower cheese, roasted root vegetables and roasting juices.

Public House’s Breakfast menu is available on Saturdays from 9am-11:30am and Sundays from 9am-2pm and include the Public House Full Scottish Breakfast – Cumberland sausage, house cured bacon, roasted tomato, flat cap mushroom, potato scone, scrambled egg, black pudding, baked beans; Eggs Benedict – Toasted muffin, poached egg, brown butter hollandaise, house cured bacon and Scrambled Eggs on Sourdough- Avocado & smoked salmon.

The restaurant, which has a 60- seat capacity and a small dedicated bar area, offers a slice of cosy countryside in the heart of Glasgow where guests will also find real local ales, fruity wines and fine single malt scotch.

The dining space exposes harsh industrial features and overlaid with a softer, high-quality finishes. Tiled floors are juxtaposed against a stunning marble counter top and high-quality finishes.

The design is a play between rough and beautiful and feminine and masculine. Beautiful tan leather chairs against a panelled wooden walls creating an interest and all-important point of difference in the space. The venue offers a rawness and honesty that guests will be familiar with. The visible kitchen is front and centre and helps great a pub environment that is fun and welcoming offering outstanding comfort food.

Nico said: ”It’s been on my radar to open a modern gastropub restaurant for some time. The goal of the restaurant is to make the dining experience fun with the sense of playfulness the Scottish are known for. The boutique pub is making a comeback and we wanted to introduce the trend to Glasgow. Public House is charmingly old-fashioned and a place that guests can enjoy exception food and wines. It’s local with a menu specifically designed to be value for money.

The neighbourhood restaurant is open six days a week serving brunch, lunch and dinner across the one floor. Locals and visitors to the area are invited to walk in, pull up a chair and enjoy a drink with their food while soaking up Public House’s spirit with open fireplaces, exposed wooden beams and snug leather furniture.

Reservations are open now. Opening hours are as follows: Tuesday – Friday 12pm-10pm and Saturday and Sunday 9am – 10pm. Public House by Nico will be closed on Mondays

The menu is available to view at www.publichousebynico.co.uk, and provides a taste of the food available that features a series of traditional gastropub favourites served with a modern edge.

Public House by Nico is located at 333 Great Western Road, Glasgow in the former home of neighbourhood bar, The Mallard. Local design team Severino designs have been appointed and the refurbishment is currently underway.
