WHISKY maker The Macallan is helping four craft businesses to hire apprentices.
The distiller is giving the companies grants from its £260,000 artisan apprenticeship fund.
The money is going to Scottish trio Alexander Manufacturing, Glasstorm, and Powderhall Bronze, and to London-based Shepherds Bookbinders.
The Macallan created the fund in 2021 to help “preserve and safeguard legacy crafts, trades, skills, and values to support employment for generations to come”.
Cash for the fund came through the sale of “The Reach”, an 81-years-old single malt and the oldest whisky released by the distillery.
North Lanarkshire-based coat maker Alexander Manufacturing will hire four apprentices thanks to the cash, while Tain-based glass studio Glasstorm will take on an apprentice too.
Powderhall Bronze in Musselburgh will train two apprentices, with Shepherds Bookbinders training one of its existing members of staff.
