Limited edition whisky to support Ness of Brodgar

Highland Park single malt Scotch whisky is set to release a special edition of only 5,000 bottles to support the work of the Ness of Brodgar Trust in Orkney.

A percentage of the proceeds from sales of Highland Park Ness of Brodgar’s Legacy will be donated to the charity which oversees Ness of Brodgar.

This is a unique 5,000 year old archaeological excavation in the heart of Neolithic Orkney World Heritage Site.

Jason R Craig, global brand director, Highland Park, said: ‘Our brand vision is to honour the proud spirit of Orkney, we aim to do this through working with and supporting organisations in our local community.

‘After meeting with the Ness of Brodgar Trust, we were inspired by their dedication, patience and willing to do the right thing and not rush their highly skilled work.’

The archaeological dig at Ness of Brodgar opens for only a short period of time over the summer – from 1 July until 23 August 2019– and welcomes visitors from around the world. Each season requires funding of around £200,000, covering both the digging period and subsequent work by specialists in labs, processing vast amounts of data, examining thousands of pieces of information excavated each year.

Nick Card, director, Ness of Brodgar Trust, said: ‘Barley and peat are the common bond between Highland Park and the Ness of Brodgar. At the Ness, we have extensive evidence of their earliest use in Scotland, tracing our shared roots back over 5,000 years. Highland Park’s support will contribute to our exploration of this unique place, contributing to a world-wide understanding of our Neolithic ancestors.’

Ness of Brodgar’s Legacy is a 12 year old single malt Scotch Whisky with flavours of sweet floral honey, rich fruitcake, warm winter spices, orange zest and our trademark aromatic smoky peat. Bottled at 46% ABV (marrying strength) for a richer and fuller flavour.

Costing £55, a special support event will take place at Stenness Community School in conjunction with the Ness of Brodgar Trust, in Orkney on 22 and 23 June between 10am and 4pm where bottles can be reserved and then collected from the Highland Park store on Albert Street, Kirkwall, from 24 June.

From July 2019, any remaining bottles of this special edition whisky will be available for public sale from the Highland Park Distillery and website. For more information about Highland Park visit: www.highlandparkwhisky.com
