Glengoyne go for gold – and make it a double

Glengoyne Highland Single Malt Scotch whisky is celebrating after this year’s San Francisco World Spirits Competition.

The Highland distillery collected a Double Gold award at the internationally acclaimed spirits awards this week for its newest global release, The Glengoyne Legacy Series: Chapter One.

The Glengoyne Legacy Series: Chapter One was released to global markets in February, representing the first in a series of annual releases from Glengoyne Distillery which proudly reveal the tales that have shaped Glengoyne as it is known today.

The prestigious San Francisco World Spirits Competition is considered one of the most respected, influential and renowned spirits competitions in the world.

The stringent judging process saw The Glengoyne Legacy Series: Chapter One blind tasted by an esteemed panel of industry judges. The Double Gold medal is the highest accolade in the San Francisco World Spirits Competition, only awarded to products deemed ‘exceptional’.

Founded in 2000, the San Francisco World Spirits Competition is one of the original competitions of its kind. Almost 3,000 spirits were judged this year—the largest number of entries in the competition’s 19-year history.

Katy Macanna, brand manager for Glengoyne, said: ‘To win such a respected award in the San Francisco World Spirits Competition is a glowing testament to the quality of our first release in The Glengoyne Legacy Series.

‘The Glengoyne Legacy Series: Chapter One has at its heart what Glengoyne Distillery is known for – a sweet, fruity spirit from the slowest distillation in Scotland, the finest sherry oak casks in existence and stunning natural colour.

‘Only two months in, it is already proving to be one of our most popular expressions globally, and we are delighted to have been recognised in such a significant way at the highly regarded competition.’

Glengoyne’s success in the San Francisco World Spirits Competition is just the latest in a winning year for the brand.

In May 2018, Glengoyne 30 Year Old was awarded the Master medal at the Asian Spirits Masters, with Gold awards going to Glengoyne 21 Year Old and Glengoyne 25 Year Old.

Glengoyne 21 Year Old also scooped the esteemed Double Gold medal at the 2018 San Francisco World Spirits Competition.

This was followed in September 2018 by double wins in The Spirits Business Scotch Whisky Masters and the Luxury Masters.

The Glengoyne Legacy Series: Chapter One retails at £54.99 per 70cl bottle, and is available to purchase from www.glengoyne.com.
