It’s not just Bourbon that Kentucky is famous for in the world of whisky.
Coopers in the state of Kentucky are responsible for hand crafting high quality American Oak barrels which are then passed over to Glen Garioch’s Masters of Distillery Road to fill with their precious spirit.
The distillery team at Glen Garioch are holding a very special event to launch the first cask, 2012 Kentucky Oak Cask 1359, with their American Trilogy project on the fourth of July – the perfect night to celebrate.
The evening will include live music, some Kentucky delicacies and a special visit to meet the three American Trilogy casks: Kentucky, Missouri and Minnesota – where three fine drams await.
Glen Garioch 2012, distilled on 25 April 2012, cask 1359 has spent over seven years patiently maturing in first fill Kentucky oak barrels. Rich and creamy honey with melted butter leads to a strong fruity flavour of white peaches, gooseberries and green apples, developing into flavours of raspberries and red fruits. The finish is warming and long with sweet and salty toffee notes.
Handcrafted and nurtured by the people of Glen Garioch, this unique dram comes from a single cask, hand selected at the very peak of perfection. Each bottle is individually numbered and personally signed by Master Blender, Ron Welsh.
A spokesman said: ‘It’s true what they say – you can never fully enjoy a dram of Glen Garioch until you have seen how and where it’s made. Many of the processes at Glen Garioch, for example, are the same today as they were over 220 years ago but the fascinating journey never stops.
‘Come and see time-honoured skills at work, touch and smell the natural ingredients used in its production, hear from the master craftsmen involved and finally, taste the fruits of their labours.

One of the oldest operating distilleries in Scotland – Glen Garioch (pronounced Geery in the ancient Doric dialect still spoken in these parts) has been making its mighty malt in the quaint and historic market town of Oldmeldrum, near Aberdeen in North East Scotland, ever since 1797.
