Berry turnovers are a tasty treat for summer

Scottish strawberries are famously some of the best in the world.

True strawberry connoisseurs should look out for the deliciously sweet and juicy AVA varieties this summer, grown by an exclusive group of growers in the North East of Scotland.

Now available from Aldi, Morrisons, Coop, and Sainsburys stores across the UK, these juicy berries have been specially developed for exceptional flavour, appearance, and shelf life by the in-house breeding programme of Scottish berry grower and distributer Angus Soft Fruits.

This year, over 2,000 tonnes of premium AVA strawberries will be grown in Scotland, including three different varieties; AVA Star, AVA Blush and AVA Rosa.

The North East of Scotland has the ideal climate for growing strawberries with its warm days and cool nights producing the finest quality berries.

While best enjoyed straight from the plant, strawberries are an extraordinarily versatile berry and make the perfect ingredient in both sweet and savoury dishes.

What’s more, a 100g serving of strawberries contains only 30 calories and 0.5g of fat, so you can enjoy sweet AVA strawberries all summer long.

Or for a sweet treat why not try these deliciously easy berry turnovers? Perfect for breakfast or an afternoon pick-me-up.
