SCOTLAND is preparing for a summer of beer festivals, with events unveiled in Edinburgh and Glasgow.
First up is Holyrood Distillery, which will hold the capital’s first three-day beer and whisky festival, “The Mash Up”, on 3-5 June.
Breweries signed up for the event include Barney’s, Bellfield, Campervan, Cold Town, Cross Borders, Newbarns, Other World, Pilot, and Stewart Brewing.
Distilleries coming along include Clydeside, Glasgow Distillery, Isle of Raasay, Kilchoman, Nc’Nean, Wemyss Malts, and Woven.
Pizza Geeks will also be providing the food.
Glasgow toasts real ale and craft
At the other end of the M8, Glasgow’s Real Ale Festival will return following a three-year hiatus.
The festival runs at the Briggait in the Merchant City on 16-18 June.
Broughton, Overtone, and Skye Brewing have already been announced in the line-up.
The event is organised by the Campaign for Real Ale’s local branch.
Looking further ahead, SWG3 will host the Glasgow Craft Beer Festival on 8 and 9 July and has unveiled its food and music accompaniments.
Optimo, Greg Wilson, and former frontman of Fun Lovin’ Criminals Huey Morgan will provide the tunes, while Babos will provide the toasties, Beirm will provide the pizzas, and El Perro Negro will provide the burgers.
The festival marks organiser We Are Beer’s first venture into Glasgow after relocating from Edinburgh.
Thirty breweries will also be represented, and the winners of We Are Beer’s “Raise The Bar” competition, starring Azvex Brewing, Baron Brewing, Drop Project, and Twisted Wheel.
Meanwhile, Platform – the events venue beneath Glasgow Central Station – has unveiled an outdoor beer garden.
Platform’s Lane seats 100 people in a cobbled back street.
‘Hop’ up to Aberdeen
Meanwhile, North Hop returns to Aberdeen for its first full-scale festival since 2018.
The craft beer, craft spirits, and street food festival will take place on 24 September.
North Hop was hosted previously at the Aberdeen Exhibition & Conference Centre, but has now found its new home at P&J Live.
The first North Hop was held in Inverness back in 2014 and, since then, the organisers have run 13 large-scale festivals and numerous pop-up events, as well as working with more than 400 brewers, distillers, and food vendors.
Vault City launches core range
In other beer news, Edinburgh-based sour beer specialist Vault City has created its first core range of beers.
Its Cloudy Lemonade (4.2%) and Strawberry Sundae (5%) have gone on sale on draught in 200 bars, pubs, and taprooms throughout Scotland, England, and Wales.
Cans are expected to follow later this year.
The launch marks a departure for the brewery, which has focused previously on releasing beers on every third Sunday.
