Edinburgh spa launches touch therapy spa treatment

Edinburgh’s One Spa is thinking pink this October as they launch a new spa treatment suitable for those currently living with or recovering from cancer.

Launching as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, their new ‘Hands on Heart’ treatment is a touch therapy treatment designed to allow guests to drift away into a meditative state of relaxation.

The treatment begins with a slow, rhythmic Tui Na Chinese massage technique on the back, followed by a calming facial using organic products and, finally, finishing with a gentle head massage.

The treatment is bespoke to each guest’s needs with simple adaptations made where required depending on an individual’s needs. Although designed to offer a safe spa experience for those with or recovering from cancer, the treatment is also suitable for anyone who is looking for deep relaxation and a pampering experience.

The treatment was developed by Made for Life Organics managing director Amanda Barlow after years spent working in the hotel industry, where she was troubled by spas refusing to offer treatments to those suffering from cancer.

She said: ‘I just wanted people living with or recovering from cancer to have access to spas. Visiting a spa is about feeling looked after and the ‘Hand on Heart’ treatment is a very comforting experience. It’s just providing people with an effective way to relax, the same reason for most people visiting a spa.

‘Feedback from guests who have been unable to have spa treatments in the past and the therapists who are now able to welcome them in has been absolutely heart-warming.’

All staff undertaking the treatment have received specialist training on a course developed under the advice from oncology massage teachers within the oncology team at the Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust. The course is also closely affiliated with both Maggie’s and Macmillan.

The Sheraton’s One Square restaurant will be supporting Breast Cancer Awareness Month throughout October with a fundraising evening on Thursday, October 12, to support Cancer Research UK. The restaurant will also be offering a ‘Pink’ Chocolate Tree Afternoon tea throughout October with £5 from every tea booked going to the charity.

The ‘Hand on Heart’ treatment is priced at £107 and lasts 1 hour and 20 minutes.
