Festive activities to take over Crathes Castle

The National Trust for Scotland is welcoming Father Christmas and his helper elves to Crathes Castle in Aberdeen this Christmas for a festive takeover.

Every weekend from Saturday 14 until Monday 23 December, families can meet Father Christmas himself inside the Great Hall of the turreted castle. Little ones can tell him their Christmas wishes and he’ll be giving out special gifts to all of those on the nice list.

Also on Saturday 14 December, the castle will be filled with traditional music as Irish Celtic harp player Fearghal McCartan hosts a special evening. His winter-themed show will take the audience on a musical journey around the Celtic lands and there will be homemade mulled wine on offer (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) to keep everyone cosy.

Returning to Crathes for its third year is the popular drive-in cinema. On Saturday 21 December, a special screening of family favourite, Frozen will take place under the stars. Families are encouraged to come along and join Elsa, Anna and the rest of the gang for an evening of wintry wonder.

Paula Sledzinska, visitor services supervisor at Crathes said: ‘With a visit from Santa Claus, a drive-in cinema and live music all taking place, Crathes will truly be the home of Christmas this year.

‘We can’t wait to welcome visitors to Crathes, including Santa and his elves, in what we are sure will be a fun family experience. Events like this also help our charity to protect Crathes Castle and Scotland’s other special places. Whether you’re eight or 80 years old, a Crathes Christmas is sure to be an experience you’ll never forget.’
