A fun September lies ahead at Drumlanrig Castle

Drumlanrig Castle and Country Estate’s team of Countryside Rangers are getting ready to host a range of activities every Sunday in September.

Families and youngsters are invited to a variety of workshops including egg experiments, survival bracelet making, bird box building, fire lighting and cave art at the Dumfriesshire Estate next month.

Starting on Sunday 9 September, visitors are in for an egg-citing workshop in the playground from 1-2pm, involving creative experiments with eggs for just 50p per child.

The following week, on Sunday, 16 September, children aged 8-16 can join an outdoor class and spark their resourceful talents with fire lighting and reveal their artistic side by creating cave art. There is no additional cost for this activity which runs from 1-2pm.

On Sunday 23 September, the Rangers are hosting a survival bracelet workshop, teaching youngsters how to tie paracord rope into a colourful and inventive bracelet to take home. The session runs on a drop-in basis from 1-2.30pm and costs £2 per person.

On the final Sunday of the month, 30 September, the Rangers will lead a bird box building workshop, giving visitors the opportunity to craft a new addition for the Estate or their own garden at home. The educational and hands-on workshop runs from 1-2pm.

For more fun-filled activities at Drumlanrig, young explorers are invited to unleash their inner Indiana Jones at the Castle’s Adventure Playground and there are several walking and cycling trails to discover on the Estate.

Claire Oram, castle manager at Drumlanrig Castle and Country Estate, said: ‘We’ve had a fantastic 2018 season at Drumlanrig and our Ranger activities always prove popular.

‘The summer holidays may have come to an end but our autumn programme of events has something for everyone to enjoy.’

Entry to Drumlanrig (including gardens, tearoom, café, shop, adventure playground, walks, cycle and mountain bike trails) cost £60 for adults, £4.50 for concessions, £3.50 for children (aged 5-16) and free for under 5s. A family entry ticket for two adults and up to three children costs £16.
