Work by artists from India, South Korea, Canada and Scotland will go on show at the Glenfiddich Distillery from this weekend.
The display, launching this Saturday, 25 August, is part of its acclaimed International Artists in Residence programme.
Hosted at the Dufftown home of world-famous single malt, the initiative sees artists from around the globe use the unique atmosphere of the Distillery and the culture, heritage and landscape of its Speyside surroundings as the inspiration for new work, which is displayed to the public through a series of free exhibitions.
The latest exhibition includes a number of cocktail-inspired sculptural items by South Korean Artist, Choi Saejin. Perspex columns and vases have been filled with layered, brightly-coloured resins and are designed to capture the natural light as it streams through the windows.
Recipient of the Glenfiddich Emerging Indian artist of the year award, Biplab Sarkar has created a panorama of the surrounding landscape portrayed in 10 postcard-sized watercolours, while Canadian artist Vanessa Maltese will showcase an extension of her first work at the Distillery exploring the brain’s ability to make sense of random patterns.
Her initial work can still be seen outside the Glenfiddich Gallery and comprises stone cobbles in concrete with each stone bearing a tartan-derived design inspired by the area’s stonework and ancient customs such as standing stones and fairy stones.
Scottish artist Rhona Jack is a graduate of Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design, Dundee and won her place on the Residency following her participation in the 2017 RSA New Contemporaries exhibition.
For her first piece of work at the Distillery, she completed a seating area created by combining dry-stane dyking inspired by the local landscape and the architecture of the Distillery Warehouse No. 1, which was built by William Grant, with the more modern style of some of the on-site warehouses. Rhona’s latest work is a sculptural piece created from pallet-wood and metal, again inspired by the Distillery’s warehouse architecture.
Work by artists Wang Te-Yu from Taiwan and Elyse de Valle from Melbourne, Australia will feature in the final Glenfiddich Artists in Residence exhibition in late September alongside a new selection of paintings by Biplab Sarkar.

The dates of the two remaining 2018 Glenfiddich Artists in Residence Exhibitions are as follows: 25 August–23 September; 29 September–14 October.
The Gallery, located beside the Glenfiddich Distillery main car park, will be open daily throughout the exhibition periods from Wednesday to Sunday 12.30–5pm (closed Monday/Tuesday) and admission is free.
Works by previous participants in the Glenfiddich Artists in Residence programme are on display year-round both in the Distillery grounds and inside the production areas.
