Tickets now available for Proms in the Park Glasgow

Tickets are now available for an all female line-up Proms in the Park Glasgow 2018.

Award winning singer Sophie Ellis-Bextor is set to play at the BBC Proms in the Park on Glasgow Green on Saturday 8 September.

Sophie takes the stage alongside an all-female line-up including one of Britain’s leading sopranos Elizabeth Watts, Scottish – Egyptian duo The Ayoub Sisters and BBC Radio Scotland Young Traditional Musician of the Year 2018 winner Hannah Rarity.

Sophie shot to fame as a vocalist on Spiller’s number one single Groovejet and then followed it up with Take Me Home and her worldwide smash hit, Murder on the Dancefloor.

In 2014 Sophie embarked on her debut singer/songwriter album Wanderlust with Ed Harcourt as co-writer and producer. The album spent three weeks in the UK top 10 album chart and spawning the hit single Young Blood.

Sophie said: ‘I can’t wait to perform with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, being part of the Last Night celebrations is very exciting!’

The world class BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Stephen Bell, takes centre stage performing classical pieces, traditional Scottish reels, as well as some well-known favourites. Along with Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Elizabeth Watts, The Ayoub Sisters and Hannah Rarity the BBC SSO will be joined by members of the Big Noise Orchestra, Scotland’s project for social change through music.

Big Noise, currently celebrating its 10th birthday, uses the symphony orchestra and learning a musical instrument, via an immersive and intensive programme, as the tools to equip children, living in disadvantaged communities, with a wide range of social and life skills including confidence, resilience and aspiration.

The BBC SSO have been partners of Big Noise since day one when they came to the Raploch community to give the children their first orchestra performance, helping inspire them to join the Big Noise programme.

Proms in the Park Glasgow, a highlight of the city’s cultural calendar, will be live on both TV and radio. It will be presented by tenor and BBC Radio Scotland presenter Jamie MacDougall.

Donalda MacKinnon, director of BBC Scotland said: ‘I’m delighted that Proms in the Park returns to Glasgow Green for another year, this time with an all-female line-up. It is sure to be a magical evening with an impressive array of musical talents brought together on stage for this special occasion.’

Scotland’s Proms in the Park is presented by BBC Scotland with support from Glasgow City Council.
Proms in the Park is part of the annual spectacular culmination of two months of music-making at the BBC Proms, as the world-famous Last Night celebrations spill out from London’s Royal Albert Hall and thousands of people come together at venues across the UK to be part of the magic of the Last Night.
