Skerryvoe hits Radio 2 playlist

SCOTTISH band Skerryvore‘s single You & I has been added to the playlist on BBC Radio 2.

Presenter Jeremy Vine told listeners that it’s “just such a fresh, real, new sound… I love it.”

Lead singer Alec Dalglish said: “It’s a dream come true to have You & I played across BBC Radio 2 and to hear DJs like Ken Bruce and Jeremy Vine talk about how much they’re enjoying our music.

“We’re so pleased to have their support and to see more people than ever before discover the band.”

He added: “You & I has the classic Skerryvore sound to it but, as always, we tried to push ourselves forward in certain ways.

“The song was written to be a big, festival headline, end-of-the-night jump around and hopefully people can do that at home until we can play for them live.”

Formed by brothers Daniel Gillespie (accordion) and Martin Gillespie (pipes, whistles and accordion) along with Fraser West (drums) and Dalglish (guitar and vocals) on Tiree in 2005, Skerryvore’s line-up also features Craig Espie (fiddle) and Jodie Bremaneson (bass), Scott Wood (pipes and whistles) and Alan Scobie (keyboards).

The single was recorded over three days in August at Wood’s Oak Ridge Studio in Glasgow, with the eight-strong group unable to come together to play the track all at once.

It was mastered by Robin Schmidt of 24-96 Mastering, who has worked with artists including Lewis Capaldi, Sam Fender, and The 1975.
